De-seasonalization, an opportunity for vacation rentals

By Alquilair

How many times have we heard that the tourist season should last much longer, that it ends very quickly? Just like that of working hard for a few months and then nothing. Undoubtedly, seasonality is the main drawback of the current tourism model in the Balearic Islands.

Hence, one of the main challenges facing tourism in the Balearic Islands is that of deseasonalization: the goal is to extend the tourist season as much as possible, to achieve a diversified demand throughout the year and not only the massification of sun and beach tourism during the high season. It is necessary to adapt to the new times. The necessary demand must be created.

In that sense, a few days ago, and coinciding with the International Tourism Fair in Madrid (FITUR), the president of the Consell Miquel Ensenyat, pointed out that a risky bet had been made for the fair, promoting Mallorca with comic images. In fact, all the advertising at Fitur was aimed at promoting deseasonalization: "Mallorca, in July and August, no longer needs promotion. We have to offer a different Mallorca. Heritage, gastronomy, hiking routes or sport are qualities that we have to value", explained Miquel Ensenyat. In short, the idea is to achieve a differentiating and diversified offer.

For example, to give us an idea, and in relation to what the President of the Consell Insular said, cycling and hiking are two practices in nature that each year are standing out more and more as alternatives for the deseasonalization in Mallorca's low season.

De-seasonalization, an opportunity for vacation rentals

All of this represents a great opportunity that must be seized. The truth is that, incomprehensibly, during the low season, while there is still tourist demand, many hotels close or reduce their accommodation offer, as they follow a traditional business scheme that has not yet been able to adapt to the new tourism consumption patterns. We should not only focus on marketing our tourist accommodation during August and the rest of the months of the high season.

Now is the time to adapt and change with the tourism model. Perhaps, winter is a great season to rent your holiday home, don't you think it's a great idea, if you need help in the decision and management of your property, we are specialists.
